Hi quim,

we did this tour last spring.
We startet from Rovinj in Istria, traveled to the ferry in north west of cres. This ferry is opend during the whole season. Then we toured down south-east to the town Cres an later down to Mali Losinj. From there we didn't get any normal ferry to Rab or Krk. We had to take a smal fishing boat and they took us € 150,- blush for the trip to Rab. in Rab we had the same problem. No direkt ferry to Krk. So we had to take the ferry on the north-east side to reach the coast and then traveled back on the "coast-road" to Rijeka. Good ferry-conections you'll only find from june till end of september. Traveling along the coast-road with bike is no fun.
Traveling on the islands is beautiful. Attention: there is no flat way grin . You climb up to 300 or 400 meters an then tour down again. Your kids should be used climbing hills.
If you want to see some photos and the plan of the tour, just send your e-mail adress.

cu

Hi Oli,
I have been away and just now read your post.
Of course, I will appreciate your pictures, travel plan and any advise you can give.
We’ll do this trip next summer, so I understand there will be no problem with ferries; as for hills... that, along with traffic, its a concern. We expect to be able to plan a feasible route, towing the youngests when needed.

Hi,
I travelled twice in croatia 1998 and 2001and would not say that the ferrie are a problem, i took a lot of them... it sounds just very strange that people paid 150euro for such a little trip : with Jadrolinka i paid 40 euros from dubrovnik to greece via italy in 1998, i do not remember the prices of the others but it was more like 5 or 10 euros
In my mind you schould not miss the coast : you will learn much more from former yugoslavia and it's nice... maybe a bit too much black BMW's
I would say that Bosnia and specially Herzegovina (south) are 10 times better than croatia and the people are so kind there : on of my best roads ever cycled (36000km) is from sarajevo to dubrovnik over Gacko but with little children forget it : there are still a lot of mines in some areas..
bye

Hello everybody,

I just joined this forum, because I was looking for information about cycling in Croatia.
This summer we will cycle for 2 weeks in Croatia, beginning and ending in Dubrovnik. I think we will start cycling through the inland and return via the islands. Our route is not fixed yet, but I already have some indeas. I don't think we will get any further than Sibenik, at least if we don't take the train...

Just a few questions : is it worth it to go through the south part of Bosnia-Herzegovina too (since the piece of land of Croatia in the south is very narrow) ? I would like to avoid the coast roads as much as possible.

In case of technical problems, can I find bike shops there ?

I am also looking for a sobe in Cavtat, who would be willing to store our bike bags (for transportation in plane) during the 2 weeks.

Any other tips or must-see's between DUbrovnik and Sibenik are most welcome !

Greetings,

Koen,
